As pérolas de Claude Harmon
Do livro "The Pro: lessons from my father about golf and life" escrito por Butch
Harmon em 2006.
There are four types of golfers.
First, there are those who are "ball oriented", who don't think of anything other
than hitting the ball. They're the ones who glance at the target one time and spend
the rest of their pre-shot routine staring at the ball and tensing to hit it. Rarely
are they very successful.
The second kind of golfer, is one who is "swing oriented". The ball and the target
are secondary; they just want to make good swings. They might look at the target
for a second or two, and look at the ball during their swings, but their monds are
on the mechanics. They are the ones that go through a mental checklist during their
pre-shot routine -- "left arm straight, spine tilted back, hips tilted up, chin
high, eyes on the ball...now Swing!". Swing oriented players might hit solid golf
shots, but they can't play golf. They are what we call "Ranger Ricks", guys who
can hit well on the range when they don't have to chose their errant shots, but
on the golf course they don't know how to score.
The third kind of golfer is the one who doesn't think about anything other than
getting it over with. This is the guy who is so self-conscious about his lack of
skill that he blanks out and hits every shot as quickly as he can, as fast as possible.
His only thoughts are turning the spotlight on somebody else. Finally, the fourth
kind of golfer, is the "target oriented" player, the one who spends all his time
thinking about where he wants his ball to go. This is the player who picks a line
and spends 95% of his pre-shot routine focusing on that target. He visualizes the
trajectory and curve of every shot, and imagines how the ball will react once it
hits the ground. He senses wind direction and the thickness of the air, and the
factors in those things as he plots how he's going to get the ball to his target.
He only thinks about the ball as it relates to the lie and how that lie will affect
the ball flight. As he only thinks about the swing as it relates to the type of
shot he wants to hit. Every synapse of this brain is geared toward hitting a specific
shot to a specific target. As far as Claude Harmon was concerned, target oriented
golfers are golfers.
The rest are jolly strollers-recreational players who can enjoy the game but who
won't get much better. a.. There's one position in the golf swing that matters:
impact. Everything else is window dressing.
b.. If someone tells you that there is one "perfect"golf swing, walk away and don't
listen to another word the says.
c.. If you don't have a target, nothing else matters. If you are aiming at nothing,
in golf as in life, you're always going to hit it.
d.. If you are practicing a golf swing, you're not practicing golf.
Abraços e bom jogo no final de semana.
